Santa Monica Studio Confirms God of War Ragnarok Will Offer Full Localization in a Dozen Languages

Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that God of War Ragnarok will support full localization (voice and text) in 11 languages (13 if you count European and South American variations). An additional eight languages will be covered via subtitles.

The lists are as follows:

Full Localization [Voice Over + Text]

  • Arabic
  • English
  • French
  • German
  • Greek
  • Italian
  • Japanese
  • Polish
  • Portuguese [European]
  • Portuguese [Brazilian]
  • Russian
  • Spanish [European]
  • Spanish [Latin American]

Text Only

  • Chinese [Simplified]
  • Chinese [Traditional]
  • Croatian
  • Czech
  • Dutch
  • Hungarian
  • Korean
  • Thai
  • Turkish

Santa Monica Studio also noted that the languages available to players will depend on the region in which they make their purchase. Not every game SKU will contain support for all of the aforementioned languages.

God of War Ragnarok will end the Norse saga, and will show an evolution of Kratos and Atreus as well as their abilities. Santa Monica Studio previously said that Atreus will now be more resourceful in combat but enemies will also become smarter.

“In Ragnarok, what we are trying to do specifically with Kratos, we’re trying to give a lot more expressiveness to the player,” director Eric Williams told IGN last month. “The way [Kratos and Atreus] link up, he’s grown up a little bit, so he’s got a lot more follow-ups and setups for Kratos. Creatures then obviously need to have tools to go against that, otherwise you’re going to destroy them.”

Following a delay, God of War Ragnarok will release in 2022. According to Kratos voice actor Christopher Judge, the game was delayed because of his medical issues.
