Call of Duty Dev Sledgehammer Games Opens New Studio in UK to Continue Global Expansion

Call of Duty development studios seem to be expanding one after the other. Shortly after Infinity Ward announced a new studio in Austin, Texas, Sledgehammer Games announced a new studio in Guildford, United Kingdom, as part of its efforts to continue global expansion.

Sledgehammer’s international ventures kicked off in 2019 when it opened a studio in Melbourne, Australia, followed by a new studio in Toronto, Canada, just this year. “In light of that success, we are focused on growing our team by going to places where we believe there is great talent,” reads a press release.

The Guildford studio will work with Sledgehammer teams in Melbourne and Toronto to support Call of Duty Vanguard‘s Live Seasons as well as “future projects we have planned for the years ahead,” according to the announcement.

Sledgehammer COO Andy Wilson released the following statement:

I’m just really excited to bring our studio brand to the UK, along with the incredible franchise we get to work on. It’s another opportunity to do our own small part to grow the industry, in a place where there’s a huge number of talented developers. As we have done in our other locations, we will be looking to build partnerships with schools and universities to help nurture and grow the next generation of talent. It’s not just about finding people who already work in the industry, it’s about providing pathways for those who are looking to get in. I remember that daunting feeling very well and it makes me happy to be providing opportunity, especially as we emerge from a historic pandemic.

Sledgehammer Guildford has already begun hiring for a number of positions, ranging from Art and Design to Engineering and Production.
