Marvel's Wolverine

Spec Ops: The Line Writer Walt Williams Is Insomniac’s Story Lead on Marvel’s Wolverine

Not much has been said about Marvel’s Wolverine since its surprise announcement back in September, but one little tidbit of information that has been sitting in plain sight was only just picked up by internet sleuths over the weekend: the game’s story lead is none other than Spec Ops: The Line writer Walt Williams.

This was first spotted by long-time insider, and currently Untold Tales’ brand manager, Shinobi602 on Twitter.

Williams joined Insomniac Games in March this year. Prior to this, he worked on Star Wars Squadrons and Star Wars Battlefront II among other titles. He spent nearly a decade at 2K Games between 2005 and 2014 in various writing roles.

Marvel’s Wolverine is in development exclusively for the PlayStation 5. According to creative director Brian Horton, it’ll have a “mature” tone.

“Back when we were working on Marvel’s Spider-Man, there would be times where all of us—Insomniac, Sony Interactive Entertainment, and Marvel—would brainstorm together about the future beyond the web-slinger. And even in those early discussions, Wolverine continually came up as the character we’d be really stoked to work on together,” Insomniac Games said last month. “Fast-forward a couple years and we’re suddenly standing in front of Sony Interactive Entertainment and Marvel formally pitching a PlayStation 5 game starring the adamantium-clawed Mutant!”

Sony and Insomniac Games have yet to announce a release date for Marvel’s Wolverine.
