Sony has opened the PlayStation Direct online store in the UK, following a similar launch in Germany earlier this week. The opening of the UK store is part of the company’s gradual launch of the service in Europe. Those living in the UK will now be able to purchase hardware such as the PS5 and PS4, as well as the DualSense controller directly from Sony.

The website did go through some temporary maintenance right after launch. Every now and then, the site may display a “currently under maintenance” message after redirecting to another page. However, reloading the website should solve the issue.
Unfortunately, UK consumers may be disappointed to learn that the PS5 is currently not in stock. Similarly, the German PS Direct store that launched earlier this week has yet to have neither the digital nor disc console in stock. While there is no official confirmation on when the consoles will be available for purchase, Sony has reportedly been flying in PS5 consoles on Boeing 747s in order to meet demand in time for the Christmas season. Hopefully, this means that there will be some in stock within the next month.
Aside from PS5s, the PlayStation Direct store also stocks PS4s as well as PS5 accessories, such as the DualSense controller and Pulse 3D Midnight Black wireless headset. Furthermore, the store also sells PS Plus subscriptions and PlayStation exclusive games like Death Stranding: Director’s Cut and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
Sony originally launched the PlayStation Direct service in 2019. Up until this year, the service was only available in the US. With the new European launch, however, PlayStation Direct will be expanding to Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, and France, in addition to the already available UK and German store. As Sony stated previously, PS Direct’s launch in the remaining European countries will “follow shortly”.
