Midnight Club Rumored to be Getting a New Open World Game

Rumors of a new open world Midnight Club game have started after job listings were spotted at Take-Two Interactive developer Visual Concepts. Several positions are open for work on an “unannounced open world driving game with a major license”, and many are hoping this will mean a Midnight Club revival.

Could this be a Midnight Club game?

The “open world driving game with a major license” is a AAA title that’s “targeted at multiple platforms”. Further listings, as spotted by ResetEra, mention consoles like PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. The game will be built on Unreal engine and will have an aspect of online multiplayer, seeing as one of the job listings wants to ensure “the moment to moment networked multiplayer experience is the best it can be”. Fans are hoping all of the above factors and the recent statement from Take-Two Interactive’s CEO that they have “sequels to many of our beloved franchises” in development mean a Midnight Club game is indeed in progress.

There are also several reasons why the game is not likely to be a revival of the Midnight Club franchise, though. Firstly, while Visual Concepts is a Take-Two Interactive studio, it belongs to 2K rather than Rockstar, the latter of which own the Midnight Club IP. Even if an agreement could have been reached between the two companies, it’s also unlikely Rockstar would entrust one of their beloved IPs to a developer that hasn’t made a racing game before. Finally, another of the listing describes the game as “fun for all ages”; Midnight Club’s ESRB rating never dipped below Everyone 10+. The game has been in development since 2019.  Hopefully the game be announced soon so we can all see for ourselves.

In other news, Horizon Zero Dawn has reached a milestone of more than 20 million sales on PS4 and PC. To celebrate, Guerrilla Games released a new cinematic trailer for the upcoming sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, which can now be pre-loaded on PS5 and PS4.
