Bungie Roe v Wade

Bungie Hits Back at Critics of Roe v Wade Statement: ‘We Will Never Stop’

Bungie isn’t known for shying away from sharing their opinions on politics and notable worldly events. The developer has now issued a statement on the leaked draft decision from the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v Wade and revoke a woman’s right to elect to have an abortion. The statement has attracted criticism from certain Destiny 2 players that believe Bungie should “just stick to making video games”, and you can probably imagine how well that has gone down too.

Bungie responds to Twitter critics

Bungie’s statement begins with their belief that “everyone has a right to choose their own path”, calling the leaked draft decision “a blow to freedom in America” and “a direct attack on human rights”. The developer also vowed to support their employees as well as safeguard their privacy and freedom.

The full statement, which also included links to charities that support rights to healthcare, can be seen below:

At Bungie we believe that everyone has a right to choose their own path and that freedom is expressed across all facets of life. The leaked draft decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade represents a blow to freedom in America and is a direct attack on human rights.
By creating a divide between those who possess the fundamental right to make healthcare decisions that are right for them, and those who do not possess that same freedom, this decision, should it become final, will have far-reaching consequences that will be felt for generations across socio-economic lines.
Bungie is committed to safeguarding the freedom and privacy of its employees and providing support to all employees affected by this decision.
Standing up for reproductive choice and liberty is not a difficult decision to make, and Bungie remains dedicated to upholding these values.

Their stand has attracted criticism from supporters of the leaked decision, but Bungie isn’t putting up with that either. Replying to their (overwhelmingly male) critics on Twitter, the company is very firmly standing its ground on its stance, remaining undeterred by those saying they’ll spend their money elsewhere.

Bungie isn’t the first company to take a stand on the decision but is certainly the most vocal and arguably the most prominent game company. Whether more will follow suit over the coming days remains to be seen.
