PS5 Console Exclusive Forspoken Delayed Once Again

Square Enix’s PC and PS5 console exclusive game Forspoken has been delayed once again. This time, the game has been pushed out of 2022 and into 2023, with a new release date of January 24th. We’ve heard rumblings about another Forspoken delay for a while but it was associated with Final Fantasy 16‘s potential release this year. However, it’s God of War Ragnarok that’s Sony’s big fall 2022 release.

Square Enix’s statement on Forspoken delay

Square Enix cited “ongoing discussions with key partners” as the reason behind its “strategic decision” to delay Forspoken – a decision that didn’t surprise many. Fans have been expressing concerns about the state of the game from what we’ve been shown thus far, with many noting that it looks rough and could do with improvements in a number of areas including dialogue. With fall 2022 being claimed by heavy-hitters like God of War Ragnarok and Call of Duty, it probably doesn’t make sense to release Forspoken in October anymore.

The statement reads:

As a result of ongoing discussions with key partners, we have made the strategic decision to move the launch date of Forspoken to January 24, 2023. All game elements are now complete, and development is in its final polishing phase. We would like to thank you for your continued support and patience on this journey. Your excitement for the game inspires us every day and we cannot wait to share more about Forspoken with you later this summer!

Here’s hoping that when it does release, Forspoken meets expectations, especially considering that a number of talented names are attached to the game.

In other news, God of War Ragnarok finally has a release date and a ton of new information, and Guerrilla Games has rolled out a Horizon Forbidden West VRR patch.
