PS5 Becomes UK’s Fourth Fastest-Selling Console

U.K.’s PS5 sales have officially crossed two million, making it the fourth fastest-selling console in the region after nearly two years on the market. This is quite a feat considering the PS5 suffered from stock shortages that have only just started to show signs of improvement. Data provided by the GfK reveals that PS5 is tied in fourth place with the PS3, behind the PS4 at no. 3, PS2 at no. 2, and Nintendo Wii as no. 1 fastest-selling console of all time in the U.K. Interestingly, Nintendo Switch took more than two years to reach two million in this market.

PS5 sales generated £919 million in the U.K.

Despite being in the fourth position, the PS5 has generated a whopping £919 million revenue from sales. Interestingly, the previous record was held by the Xbox One at £726 million. The PS4 generated £700 million in two years and Nintendo Wii generated £358 million in the same length of time.

“Given the stock problems surrounding PS5 it is fair to say it would have easily outpaced PS3 to 2m units,” said GfK’s Dorian Bloch (via Games Industry). He added that the “significantly higher price of the PS5” has not negatively impacted its sales, noting that customers are happy to pay the £105 premium.
