Sony Might Put PS5s in Honda’s Electric Vehicles to Compete With Tesla

Sony-Honda joint venture is considering putting the PS5 in cars to take on the likes of Tesla in the electric vehicle market. Called Sony Honda Mobility, the joint venture was established in September and expects to launch its first electric vehicle in North America by 2025. Speaking to The Financial Times, the companies said that they plan to use Sony’s expertise in entertainment content services to gain an edge over competitors.

Integrating PS5 in cars is “technologically possible”

President Izumi Kawanishi, who has worked in Sony’s robotics division, told The Financial Times (via TheGamer) that integrating PS5 into cars is “technologically possible” and Sony has what Tesla doesn’t: content services. “Sony has content, services, and entertainment technologies that move people,” Kawanishi explained. “We are adapting these assets to mobility, and this is our strength against Tesla.”

Sony Honda Mobility isn’t thinking of simply bundling a PS5 into a car. The company wants to build a car that is designed to offer the kind of entertainment and network services that Sony is able to offer. But that’s not all! Sony and Honda plan to invest heavily in perfecting autonomous driving – a costly project that no major industry player has been able to master yet.
