Alan Wake 2 takes advantage of DualSense Features on PS5 and PC

Remedy Entertainment’s Communications Director, Thomas Puha, recently put out a tweet talking up Alan Wake 2’s support for DualSense controllers. This includes using the controller’s haptic feedback to help build the game’s atmosphere, letting players feel rain pattering through the controller. Each weapon also offers different haptic feedback, with Puha giving the example of shotguns feeling much different from the crossbow. He clarified that the PC version will also support DualSense. Puha also added that players can, of course, turn the controller rumble off if they prefer.

PlayStation games have taken advantage of haptic feedback since the original DualShock launched in 1997. However, the PlayStation 5’s DualSense gamepad features significant advances over the PS4’s DualShock 4. The actuators in the controller’s handles can create a wide range of feedback, while the Adaptive Triggers offer variable force feedback. It’s clear that the developers of Alan Wake 2 hope to take advantage of these features in the upcoming game.

Launching on October 27, Remedy’s Alan Wake 2 sees the titular author still trapped in the alternate dimension called the Dark Place. Hoping to escape his 13-year imprisonment, he writes a supernatural horror story about an FBI agent named Saga Anderson. Players control both Wake and Anderson in a third-person survival horror game. The sequel also introduces detective mechanics and a dialogue tree system.
