Sony Offering PS Plus Membership Discount to Select Users

Sony is currently running a targeted marketing campaign, offering PS Plus membership discount to select users. How exactly the campaign is targeted isn’t clear, much to players’ chagrin. Even the percentage of discount applied seems to vary.

New PS Plus discount offer expired on January 30

Reports of the random discounts first emerged last week, when players reported receiving 35% off of 3-month and 12-month membership plans for all three PS Plus tiers: Essential, Extra, and Premium. Most of the people who reported receiving the email seem to be returning members whose previous membership expired some time ago.

However, not all returning members are getting the discount offer, and some have even reported being offered only 25% off of the 3-month and 12-month plans. All recipients have until January 30 to make up their minds.

This targeted campaign has upset quite a few players, many of whom said that they were loyal subscribers for a number of years before letting their memberships expire due to the extortionate increase in price.

“Not only existing customers get nothing, but also majority of new and returning customers get nothing, apart from few randomly chosen,” complained one user. “This is why competition is good,” added another.
