Sony Under Fire for Promoting Low Quality PS5 Games

It is not a secret that Sony puts some questionable video games on the PlayStation Store. Although not entirely rare, it is less frequent that the company actually promotes these games. However, it seems that some of these games make it on PlayStation’s YouTube channel, and as expected, players are criticizing the company for promoting these low-quality PS5 games.

Players criticize Sony for promoting “Temu Resident Evil”

The trailer in question is for an upcoming first-person adventure game, Ebola Village. Clearly inspired by newer Resident Evil games, such as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and Resident Evil Village, it doesn’t quite reach the same level of quality. Again, it’s not a surprise that a game like this would hit the PS Store, but it is surprising to see it on PlayStation’s official news channel next to Suda51’s next game, Romeo is a Dead Man, and popular free-to-play action game, Infinity Nikki.

It seems likely that the developer indie_games_studio paid for the promotion, and Sony doesn’t have strict guidelines on what can be uploaded on the channel. The trailer has now been removed from PlayStation’s YouTube channel. The trailer above is from the game’s channel.

This has led to some criticism from players about Sony’s standards when uploading trailers for games like Ebola Village to its YouTube channel, which one Reddit user called “Temu Resident Evil.” Comments similar to this are found under the Ebola Village trailer’s comment section as well.

“I don’t know what the requirements are for placement on their official YouTube channel, but it’s clear Sony’s standards are far too low,” said Reddit user ReturnByDeath.

“Yeah, looks like shit, no idea what Sony thinks they’re doing associating themselves with an indie developer as poor as this one is,” said Reddit user lookitsjustin.

Ebola Village is scheduled to launch on January 23. A price is not yet known, but it costs $16.99 on Steam. So, it seems likely it will cost around the same price. There are actually three other Ebola games, with Ebola 3 available to purchase on the PS Store as well.
