PS5 and PS5 Pro system software update

PS5 Gets Surprise System Update for April 2026, Patch Notes Out

Sony has rolled out a surprise PS5 system software update for April 2026, but don’t get your hopes up. Firmware version 26.03-13.20.00 is a little over 1 GB (size may vary by region), and brings minor improvements to communication features.

PS5 system software update 26.03-13.20.00 patch notes (April 23, 2026)

Complete patch notes for today’s PS5 firmware update are as follows:

  • We’ve added more emojis that you can use for message reactions.
  • We’ve improved the messages and usability on some screens.

There are no new system software updates for the PS4 or PS Portal remote player.

One thing we did notice, however, is that Sony rolled out at least two back-end system feature updates over the last week. When manually checking for system feature updates via the PS5’s system menu, I was prompted to restart my console to install the “latest features,” but I didn’t notice any changes. One such feature update went live just a day ago.

I searched online to see if other players noticed anything different, but beyond fellow players confirming that they, too, received new feature updates, I didn’t find any information.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled and update our readers when/if we find out what those mysterious feature updates brought.

In the meantime, if you notice any changes, leave us a comment below.
