Free week for PS5 game Marathon

PS5 Owners Can Play 2026 Sony First-Party Game for Free

A Sony first-party PS5 game released in March 2026 is already going free for a limited time starting Tuesday, June 2. Despite positive critic reviews, Bungie‘s multiplayer shooter Marathon hasn’t had a stellar start commercially, and it looks like Sony really wants players to give it a chance.

Bungie PS5 game Marathon will be free to play for a week starting June 2

Marathon will be completely free to play between June 2 and June 9. What’s more surprising is that a PS Plus subscription will not be required to play it.

Sony calls this an “Open Play Week,” during which the full game will be available to all players, and all of your progress will carry over to Marathon Season 2, which also starts on June 2.

For the uninitiated, Marathon is the revival of Bungie’s classic shooter series that spawned three PC games in the 90s. It’s a decent game, but one that’s struggling a little in a market saturated with multiplayer shooters.

“Infil into the dark sci-fi world of Tau Ceti IV: A derelict colony rife with rival Runners, hostile UESC security forces, and hazardous environments,” an overview reads. “As you scavenge its zones for valuables with a crew or alone, tense moments of exploration break into fast-paced PvP combat where gunplay is responsive, time to kill is low, and preparation is rewarded.”

We highly recommend giving Marathon a chance during its free play week.
