Sony‘s new PS Plus schedule update in select regions isn’t going down well with players. The company recently announced that members in the US, UK, and Japan will be able to access Extra and Premium games on varying dates, while the rest of the world will be able to access all games at once on the third Tuesday of the month.
Sony previously tried a staggered monthly PS Plus update in several regions, with no notable success
Some of you may recall that Sony trialed a staggered release schedule in select regions, like Australia and Singapore, more than a year ago. PlayStation LifeStyle was one of the very few websites that tracked and covered the messy rollout, and was the only site to report how it left players utterly confused and frustrated.
Now, players in the West are expressing similar sentiments.
“Maybe they [Sony] thought it would keep interest in the service going, but honestly, it just kills hype if the game you’re looking forward to doesn’t become available until June 30,” a member complained. “The staggered release dates are the most anti-consumer thing of all time; if your sub is expiring, you are shortchanged,” added another.
I’ve read quite a few angry comments from players who were looking forward to Life Is Strange: Double Exposure and wanted to finish the game before their subscription expired. Frankly, I understand the frustration.
I’ve seen arguments in favor of drip-feeding games, but players have different interests, and it is certainly annoying when a game you’re looking forward to is held back for a different date.
To top it all off, as I wrote back in 2025, the confusion stemming from up to four different release dates within a single month doesn’t seem worth whatever Sony is trying here. Add to this the monthly PS Plus Essential schedule, and it gets pretty messy.
Here’s hoping we get an explanation for the staggered rollout, at the very least.
