Another PlayStation Plus Price Hike Feared After Sony Statement

PlayStation players are bracing themselves for another PS Plus price hike following a recent Sony business segment meeting. The company has said that it’s no longer placing a greater emphasis on chasing monthly active users (MAUs), choosing instead to derive more revenue from existing players.

Sony plans to squeeze more value out of current PlayStation players

“We want to make sure that Customer LTV (Customer Lifetime Value) for every new user is profitable,” Sony told investors. “We aim to achieve this by driving higher Customer LTV, increasing recurring revenue, and implementing operational discipline and efficiency. By balancing growth in these areas, we can achieve our aim for profitable growth.”

The last time Sony made a similar statement, it hiked up PS Plus prices. In the same business segment meeting, the company confirmed that it expects to cover the costs of servers and network infrastructure through revenue generated from PS Plus. Should those costs go up, so will the price of PS Plus.

“We are using multiple levers to improve profitability, including pricing, tier mix and content acquisition efficiency,” Sony added. “Higher [PS Plus] tiers now account for 40% of subscribers, which reflects strong demand for the service.”

Sony also revealed that PS Plus achieved “record-high profitability” in FY2025.
