One of the PS5 generation’s most highly anticipated RPGs just received a major release date update that will excite fans of the genre. CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4, which was announced in 2025, now has an early release window. The upcoming RPG will follow Ciri as a monster slayer, following the events of 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
CD Projekt Red joint CEO Michał Nowakowski provided an update on the game’s status to fans on social media. The video, posted ahead of Gamescom 2026, ends with a tease of the game’s eventual arrival. While no exact release date was given, Nowakowski announced that The Witcher 4 is targeting a 2028 release window.
“I know it’s a bit of a wait, and you’d love to play it sooner, but let the team cook,” said Nowakowski.
What do we know about The Witcher 4 so far?
The Witcher 4 will feature Ciri as the main protagonist, following the ending of the previous game. She will be voiced by Ciara Berkeley, replacing Jo Wyatt from the previous game. The game will also feature an appearance from Geralt of Rivia, with original voice actor Doug Cockle reprising the role. The game is being built in Unreal Engine 5, which is a departure from CDPR’s previous in-house REDengine. The sequel will explore previously unseen regions of the continent, including Kovir and Valdrest. As seen in a previous tech demo, CDPR is aiming for 4K 60 fps performance with ray tracing on the PlayStation 5 for the game.
The Witcher 4 is not the only Witcher game in development. CD Projekt Red previously confirmed it is intended to be the start of a new trilogy. There is also a remake of The Witcher, the first game, in development at Fool’s Theory. The developer will also release The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past, a new expansion for the game, over a decade after its release in 2027.
The Witcher 4 is in development for PC, PS5, and XBOX Series X|S consoles.
