PlayStation 5 Getting Surprise Release of Cult Classic Adventure Game

A modernized and improved version of a cult-classic adventure game will be released for PlayStation 5. This game was originally released on April 30, 1998, for Windows PC. In 2015, the game was ported to iOS and Android devices. However, the enhanced version will soon be released for modern consoles.

Sanitarium Enhanced has been announced by Ziggurat Interactive and QUByte. This game is an enhanced version of DreamForge Intertainment’s award-winning cult horror game, Sanitarium.

It will launch on modern consoles like PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, and Switch. PC gamers can download the game from Steam, the Epic Games Store, and GOG.

Although no official date has been provided, it is set to launch by the end of 2026, as per Gematsu. The Sanitarium Enhanced announcement trailer can be watched below.

What do we know about Sanitarium?

Sanitarium was named the Adventure Game of the Year in 1999. The enhanced version brings back the point-and-click adventure horror game with full controller support.

The game description reads, “You awaken disfigured and amnesiac in a decaying asylum, with no memory of who you are or how you got there. Escaping your cell is only the beginning: each chapter pulls you deeper through a chain of nightmare worlds—a village of deformed children, a town of insectoid mutations, a circus of the grotesque—as you piece together the fractured truth of your own identity.”

Key features of Sanitarium Enhanced include a widescreen resolution to help support and improve gameplay, an optional hint mode to help find interactables, controller support, and Steam Deck optimizations.

It also includes a gallery with bonus content from the original development team. This bonus content was not released before by the original developers, so it comes as a new addition to the game.

Furthermore, it includes quality-of-life improvements, which includes optional movement and speed toggle. Overall enhancements include fixing legacy bugs and issues that were part of the original game.
