Fans of immersive post-apocalyptic FPS games just got a new trailer for a highly anticipated sequel during Sony’s State of Play showcase this week. During the presentation, 4A Games released a new gameplay trailer for Metro 2039, with footage captured on PS5 Pro.
The next Metro game, like its predecessors, will be a story-driven single-player experience. The gameplay video follows The Stranger, the game’s protagonist, exploring the ruins of Moscow on the surface. The Stranger is described as a former Spartan warrior with a dark past, looking for a Novoreich fortress in the video.
What players can expect from Metro 2039’s combat & performance
Like most games on PS5 Pro, Metro 2039 on the enhanced console will offer sharp image quality with improved visual fidelity and frame rate. The gameplay video shared by PlayStation runs at 60 fps with ray tracing enabled. The enhanced performance is a result of the Ukrainian developer optimising its in-house 4A Engine, which also powered its previous Metro titles.
Like previous titles, Metro 2039 will have players surviving harsh weather and managing their radiation levels on the surface. The Stranger is equipped with the powerful Shatun rifle to deliver silenced headshots, along with usual throwables like molotovs. He also has the Duplet shotgun, which can be deployed at close range to deliver devastating damage to enemies.
Before this, 4A Games released Metro: Exodus Enhanced Edition on PS5, which also included enhanced ray tracing at 60 fps on the console. The developer is promising Metro 2039 to be the franchise’s best-looking game to date.
Metro 2039 releases on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S on February 4, 2027. The previous entry, Metro: Exodus, is also available in PlayStation Plus Extra’s Game Catalog
