Sony has just added a new feature to the PS5 via a beta update for May 2026. As reported by selected participants, the update adds a new social/community feature accessible via the Welcome Hub.
PS5 beta update for May 2026 adds new social feature to the Welcome Hub
PlayStation YouTuber MysticRyan showcased the PS5 Welcome Hub’s new “Community Activity” widget in a video. Unfortunately, it’s nowhere close to the PS4’s fantastic social features.
The widget basically shows which games are being played the most by players in your region. If you select “Top 10,” you’ll see the current week’s most popular games.
Selecting “Trending Now” displays the “games and modes that are surging in popularity right now.” So, for example, if players in your region are flocking to a new Fortnite or Call of Duty mode, that’ll appear in the trending list alongside full games.
Frankly, we’re not sure why Sony thinks this widget is useful. I personally preferred the PS4 social features that let players see what their friends are up to. PS4 Communities is another feature that is sorely missed.
The Community Activity widget is currently in beta. If Sony decides to go ahead with it, we might have to wait a few months for a full rollout.
