NHL 12 Brings the Franchise its Best First Week

In an industry dominated by Madden and FIFA, it’s nice to see some other sports get some recognition every now and again. EA Sports’ latest entry in the NHL franchise has done just that by bringing the series the best first week it has ever seen.

EA announced earlier today that NHL 12 had a “record-breaking launch” with the game selling more than 451,000 copies in its first week. Sales are up a whopping 19 percent in North America and Europe, raking in a worldwide retail total of $27 million.

While the numbers may pale in comparison to the juggernaut that is Madden, the fact that the NHL series is gaining popularity is a good sign for the future of the franchise. Those fearing that hockey games are a thing of the past need not worry, as EA will likely strive to top their sales numbers next year with an even richer, feature-packed NHL 13.
