Sony: PS4 Issues Affect Less Than 1% of Systems, Doesn’t Believe There’s One Common Issue (Update: Exchanges are Immediate)
Update: Game Informer reached out to Sony about shipping times for defective PS4s, with the company saying, “SCEA is exchanging units with new replacements for those who call our support line. The exchanges are immediate with expedited shipping.”
Original Story: Once numerous reports of PS4 hardware failure came to light last week, Sony issued a statement that said, “The number of affected systems represents less than .4% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction.”
When asked this week by Engadget if the PS4 had one common problem that was causing all the issues, an SCEA rep gave out this answer, revealing how “less than 1%” of PS4s have been affected:
There have been several issues reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of PS4 units. We also understand that some units were reportedly damaged during shipping. The number of affected PS4 systems is less than 1%, which represents a very small percentage of total units shipped to date and is within the expected range for a new product introduction.
We understand the frustration of consumers that have had a problem and are working with them and our retail partners to help troubleshoot issues and ensure affected units are exchanged.
As one of the biggest retailers when it comes to PS4s sold, Amazon.com was hit with a lot of negative reviews for the system, as many people have experienced hardware issues. In a statement sent to Geek Wire, Amazon mirrored Sony’s ‘less than 1%’ number by saying that over 99% of customers are enjoying their system:
Since the day of announce, the PS4 has been a big seller on Amazon with more units shipped on release day than any other video game console in our history. More than 99% of Amazon customers are having a great experience with their new console. We are working with Sony to assist the small percentage of customers who have reported issues and our customer service team stands ready to offer an exchange or where possible, help customers get their systems up and running.
Are you in the under 1% of people (which would be roughly 10,000 of the 1 million sold) with PS4 issues? Or are you in the 99%? Let us know in the comments below.
