Final Fantasy XV Director Says His Team Isn’t Involved With PS4 Neo/Xbox Scorpio Yet

With Sony confirming PlayStation Neo (rumored to launch later this year) and Microsoft unveiling its Project Scorpio at E3 for a 2017 release, Kotaku asked Final Fantasy XV director, Hajime Tabata, if his team has been working with either of the two upcoming consoles at all. Tabata said that they “haven’t started anything” and in fact, he only just found out about Scorpio during Microsoft’s press conference. From Kotaku’s question and Tabata’s answers, it’s unclear if “we” means his Final Fantasy team or Square Enix as a whole, however.

When asked what he thinks of the new consoles now that some details are out in the open, Tabata said:

Until I actually see something moving on it I’m not gonna get a real feeling of what it can do and grasp it, but certainly listening to the specs being reeled off, I think that did sound like something that’s got quite a lot of potential. It’d be really great though if we could have Final Fantasy XV something we can play on the current-generation Xbox One and PS4 and also give them that choice that when the new, stronger-generation hardware comes out, to have them play at that level as well. I’d really like to be able give them that… I think you’ve probably got a 4K TV in your house, haven’t you?

It remains to be seen when/if PS4 Neo launches this year but so far, rumors claim that it’s on track for a 2016 launch.
