Uncharted: The Lost Legacy to Have the Largest Level in the Entire Franchise

While Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is not an open world game, it’s not exactly a game with small levels, either. If you’re a fan of big, sprawling levels in your action games, you ought to keep an eye out for the standalone entry to the Uncharted franchise, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. In the latest issue of Game Informer magazine, Naughty Dog Designer James Cooper revealed that the studio has made the biggest single level in any Uncharted game in The Lost Legacy’s Western Ghats mountain range — yes, even bigger than that of Uncharted 4’s “Madagascar” level in terms of size.

James Cooper: This is the single largest level we’ve ever done in Uncharted. Geographically, it’s much bigger than Madagascar, which was previously our largest level.

You might be thinking, “what good would all that area be if you’re shepherded in to just one route?!” Well, that won’t be the case in The Lost Legacy. According to Game Director Kurt Margenau, players won’t be forced to take one linear path.

Kurt Margenau: We have this really great location with the rural Western Ghats that allows us to get a true sense of exploration, unlike anything we’ve done before where the level design isn’t directing you exactly where to go.

Good news, right? Well, it should be, since this might likely be the last Uncharted game from the studio.

Do you want a more open world take on Uncharted’s levels or do you prefer a more linear approach with tighter gameplay mechanics?
