3D Platformer A Hat in Time Comes to PS4, Xbox One & PC This Fall

3D platformer A Hat in Time is releasing in fall 2017 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, priced at $29.99 USD, publisher Humble Bundle announced today. This will be the first title they’ve ever published for consoles.

Successfully raising $296,000 on Kickstarter in 2013 (the goal was $30,000), A Hat in Time stars a little girl named Hat Kid who must travel to a nearby planet to recover Time Pieces, which fuel her ship. There’s more than 35 acts in the game, where you’ll meet the Mafia of Cooks, the birds of Dead Bird Studio, the shadows of Subcon Forest, and more.

Publishing Lead John Polson explained that Hat Kid can gain more abilities by finding yarn hidden throughout the world:

Hat Kid is agile despite her young age. She can double jump and climb up walls, as well as propel through the air using her speedrunner-appropriate dive. Hat Kid gains even more mobility and abilities with her heaps of adorably adorned hats, provided she finds enough yarn hidden throughout the world for her to stitch.

For example, her witch hat allows her to brew potions that harm enemies and break through environments. Her fox mask allows her to peek into the dweller dimension, and her snow hat lets her turn to ice and crush her enemies. Hats can become even more powerful by attaching badges that are found, sold, and traded by the locals, too. Hope you like a little metroidvania in a 3D platformer, as these new abilities will let you explore and conquer new places and puzzles you could not previously.

Polson says A Hat in Time is “the first of many games coming to PS4 through our new publishing initiative Presented by Humble Bundle.”

In a Kickstarter update, original developer Gears for Breakfast reveals that they’ll continue to work on the PC version, while Hardsuit Labs is porting the engine. The console versions will have all the features of the PC version, and will also receive the stretch goal updates (including co-op and a bonus chapter).
