Kingdom Hearts III Director Discusses DLC, Mini-Games, and More in New Interview

The latest issue of Weekly Famitsu is out now, and in it, Tetsuya Nomura – the director of the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III – discusses the game in a more in-depth manner than he has in some time. In the discussion, Nomura reveals a bit about the upcoming game, including the fact that there are currently plans to have downloadable content for the title to expand gameplay.

When it comes to DLC, Nomura specified that while DLC would be included in the game, his goal was to expand gameplay for Kingdom Hearts III rather than have tons of in-game items available to sell. Nomura also revealed that he thinks the studio will release standalone content rather than allow players to purchase a Season Pass. Further along in the interview, Nomura revealed that the delay in releasing the game was strictly due to a result of 2019 being more favorable for other parties, and was not done in order to develop more of the game. This information should give players ease, as many seemed to be worried about another potential delay.

Nomura also went a bit in-depth regarding some of the worlds that players will visit. The Frozen world, for instance, follows the same timeline as the film itself. While Anna and Elsa will not be joining your party, Nomura did say that Marshmallow – the gigantic snow monster – will lend you its power. When players come upon Ratatouille, they’ll be able to play a cooking mini-game that raises your status throughout the game, while the Pirates of the Caribbean world is themed around the films third entry At World’s End. For a bit more on what was discussed in the interview, check out Gematsu for the full breakdown and translation.

Kingdom Hearts III is set to launch January 29, 2019.
