Square Enix Summons Rising Profits

Since the days of what many consider the height of the RPG genre, Square Enix has slowly faded from the PlayStation platform. While the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 were their primary platform nearly a decade ago, they have since focused most resources on handhelds; primarily the Nintendo DS. With Final Fantasy XIII finally upon us, Square Enix is looking to give the modern PlayStation 3 a hand.

Over roughly a nine-month period, Square Enix improved their profit by 97% with an operating income boosted to $202.6 million dollars. With the Japanese releases of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Final Fantasy XIII, Square Enix saw nearly a 100% increase in profits from the same period only a year before. With profits rising, Square Enix should gain the confidence necessary to pursue interesting new concepts and ideas, especially with one of the most anticipated titles of this generation, Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

Square Enix’s premier title of 2010, Final Fantasy XIII, is set to release on March 9th, 2010.
