Warner Bros. Unveils New, DC Comics Flavored Fighting Game From NetherRealm

It looks like NetherRealm Studios is taking a break from Mortal Kombat to begin work on a new fighting IP dubbed Injustice: Gods Among Us, which ironically is hardly new, as its cast of fighters is being pulled from the DC Comics universe.

According to the publisher, the game will feature a “deep, original story,” an element that is often particularly weak in the fighting genre. Confirmed characters for Injustice include, but are not limited to: Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash, Batman, Harley Quinn and Solomon Grundy.

Ed Boon, the Creative Director at NetherRealm Studios couldn’t sound more elated to be working on the game, saying:

We can’t wait to reveal Injustice: Gods Among Us because it will give our fans and gamers an epic experience as they battle like gods as their favorite DC Comics villains and heroes.

Our team is excited to make a fighting game that is filled with fast-paced action, incredible story-telling and iconic DC Comics characters.

It will be interesting to see where NetherRealm plans to take this project, as the studio is known for injecting incredibly brutal and gory violence into their games, something I’m sure DC Comics would rather not subject their iconic heroes to. Let Midway’s Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe serve as an example.

Injustice: Gods Among Us is set to arrive in stores sometime next year for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii U. You can check out the game’s official site here.
