NetherRealm Aims to do a Better Job Delivering DLC for Injustice: Gods Among Us

Ed Boon and the boys at NetherRealm Studios are striving to improve the way they parcel out downloadable content for Injustice: Gods Among Us, having learned from their experience with Mortal Kombat.

There’s no doubt that there will be new characters in the form of DLC following the game’s release, and NetherRealm wants to do it right. Speaking with Polygon, creative director Ed Boon explained that it’s difficult to come up with an effective way to make sure everyone is on the same page in the online space.

The fundamental problem is getting the data to everybody’s machine. I personally believe that the solution is to design a system that pushes it everyone so that it’s just an update that downloads the content when a new character is available and you can’t get online until you’ve downloaded it. I think that’s a solution that could work. That’s the approach I’d like to take.

We just have to work out the logistics with the [platform holders].

Despite the game’s handful of online issues, last year’s Mortal Kombat reboot has quickly become one of the most beloved fighting games of this generation. If Boon and his team at NetherRealm can serve up an even more compelling experience with Injustice, fighting game fans will have one heck of a gem on their hands.
