Square Enix Announces Redesigned Final Fantasy XIV Will Be Coming To PS3 & PC

Final Fantasy XIV is getting an overhaul and coming to PS3 and PC, Square Enix has announced.

The publisher revealed the redesign of the MMORPG today, which is called Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The redesigned FFXIV has been described as “rebuilt from the ground up” and will offer a new world to explore, in addition to a new storyline as well. The title focuses on the concept of rebirth.

Final Fantasy XIV Producer/Director Naoki Yoshida said the following about the redesign:

Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new FINAL FANTASY XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the FINAL FANTASY series. I hope you’re looking forward to it!

Square Enix didn’t disclose any further details about when to expect the redesign or when it might be released, other than a “Coming Soon To PlayStation 3 and PC” message at the end of the trailer that accompanies the announcement. However, fans will be able to find updates on A Realm Reborn on the game’s official site. The PS3 version of the game has yet to be released.

It’s been quite some time since the game’s announcement at E3 2009. Any PS3 owners out there still looking forward to the redesign and eventual release of FFXIV?
