Sir Hammerlock Releasing for Borderlands 2 Next Year and a Level Cap Increase Update From Gearbox

According to a tweet from Randy Pitchford on December 11th, “You can quote me on this, “I guarantee that there will be more DLC for Borderlands 2 before the world ends.”  The 18th (the only Tuesday between then and the alleged end of the world on Dec.21st) came and went without word of Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, the upcoming third DLC pack for Borderlands 2. According to a 2K blog post this morning, the add-on will be releasing on January 15th in the US and 16th in EU for the standard pricing of USD $9.99 / GBP £7.99 / EUR 9,99 €, and free for those that have purchased the season pass.

Yesterday, Gearbox’s @ECHOcasts, the Twitter account that first belonged to Gaige the Mechromancer and subsequently ‘hacked’ by Mr. Torgue, has been taken over by Sir Hammerlock. The self proclaimed hunter, philosopher, and mustache-grower teased that his “…tweets may not be as “explosive” as our old friend Torgue’s, but I’ve news to share nonetheless!”

Hammerlock followed with the first official reveal of Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, calling out that most of us “…have likely gleaned [the announcement] from the rather frustratingly effective investigators amongst you”. He continues, saying that this announcement “…surpris[es] precisely *no one,* as they’d already heard the title on Joystiq or something like that. Ah, well.” It’s great to hear Gearbox keep up the traditional Borderlands humor in breaking the fourth wall.

Gearbox told IGN that a level cap increase will be coming in Q1 of next year, but it is not specified whether it would be packaged with DLC or just an update, so don’t hold your breath for Sir Hammerlock to bring it to the table. It should be interesting to note that they are saying that the level cap increase will be done in such a way that will make you want to play the whole game over again. They also said that they want to continue to support the title after the current planned four DLC outings.

So what happened to Pitchford’s promised DLC before the end of the world? The content that he was referring to was likely the special edition pack and the Creature Slaughter Dome that are now available to purchase for $4.99 each.  These were previously only available to people who purchased the special edition and who pre-ordered, respectively. Enjoy the trailer for Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt below and wait with PlayStation LifeStyle for January 16th to come around.
