Square Enix Clarifies: IO Interactive is Working on a “New, AAA Hitman Game” for PC and Next-Gen

Earlier today a report from Videogamer surfaced, suggesting Square Enix Montreal’s next-gen Hitman game had been cancelled. The news came from employee LinkedIn profiles, which also showed that Square Enix Montreal was now working on an unannounced game for iOS and Android instead.

To clear up any confusion, a Square Enix rep sent out the following statement to Polygon, which confirms IO Interactive is working on a next-gen Hitman title, with Square Enix Montreal working on mobile titles:

IO Interactive is developing a new, AAA Hitman game that will be coming to PC and next-gen consoles and Square Enix Montreal is fully focused on mobile development of games some of which are related to the Hitman franchise. We look forward to sharing more details about these titles later this year.

Stay tuned for details on the new Hitman game for consoles as they arrive.
