Bungie’s Jonty Barnes Believes the Importance of Video Game Graphics is Overblown

Destiny’s Production Director Jonty Barnes has said that the competition between platform providers is placing too much of an emphasis on graphics, and that gamers generally don’t care which platform is more powerful than the other. In an interview with The Sixth Axis, Barnes said that a great gameplay experience is way more important than adhering to benchmarks like like 1080p or 60fp.

I feel like as an industry, people are caring less and less about numbers, which is great. It always used to be about graphics, and though 1080p and 60Hz are still out there, and as platform providers get competitive around those things it seems to magnify the importance of it. But it isn’t about that. It’s actually what is an awesome gameplay experience for the player and anything that gets in the way of the best player experience is baggage.

As a casual gamer, I agree, Barnes.
