With the PlayStation 4 sitting at 10 million sold worldwide as of August 2014, Sony UK MD Fergal Gara told MCV that the PS4 has sold one million units in the UK since launch, which totals 42 weeks.
The PS4 is actually the 2nd fastest console in the UK to reach the one million milestone, with the Wii achieving it in just 38 weeks. Looking at other consoles, the PlayStation 3 took 46 weeks to reach one million, the PlayStation 2 50 weeks, and the Xbox 360 60 weeks.
As was revealed earlier this year in a study, most of the people who own a PS4 in the UK didn’t own a PS3, with Gara saying:
We have certainly seen PS3 consumers come across quite hard and fast.
But a very significant proportion are people we have never seen on our network before. And from their behavior and the types of games they are playing, it’s fairly clear that a big chunk of those have come across from Xbox, which is tremendous to see. And there’s a chunk that look like they’re brand new to gaming. And they’ve picked PS4 as their first serious gaming device.
For a few more PS4 UK numbers, PlayStation UK said, “1 Million PS4s have been sold in the UK, with 12M video clips, 21M photos and 1.2M broadcasts shared since launch!”
Do you think this fast start will ultimately lead to the PS4’s victory over Xbox One in the UK?
