Square Enix: Other Final Fantasy Titles Could Come to PS4 (Update)

Update:

Square Enix sent over a fully translated version of Hashimoto’s response about wanting more Final Fantasy games on PlayStation 4, clearing up anything that may have been lost in translation:

In reality, I would like to create an environment where other past Final Fantasy titles beyond X/X-2 become playable on the PS4. Our current Final Fantasy properties are for the PS3 and earlier, but globally, the shift to the PS4 is escalating.

With regards to China, the console market itself is beginning to emerge with the PS4. Therefore, I do feel a tinge of anxiety in terms of these considerable masterpieces no longer being available to play. That said, it’s not an easy/quick task to port these titles to the PS4, so we would need to take it one step at a time in generating a path for these titles to become playable on the PS4.

Original Story:

After it was announced last week that the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster would be coming to the PlayStation 4 in Spring 2015, Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto sat down with Game Watch, where he was asked about the Final Fantasy PS4 re-releases, which also includes Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Type-0 HD.

According to him, they “won’t be limited to Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X/X-2. Other Final Fantasy titles could arrive for the PlayStation 4 as well.”

After mentioning how the PS4 is the best way to allow Chinese gamers to get their hands on these “long-awaited masterpieces,” he adds that these Final Fantasy games on PS4 will help the system sell better in China and worldwide.

Hashimoto continued by saying that the lack of backwards compatibility on PS4 and cloud services not yet offering great experiences for most gamers led to these upcoming re-releases.

Since there were no firm details about how they might do this, bringing more Final Fantasy games to PS4 could be done through enabling PSOne Classics on the system, re-releasing Final Fantasy XII in HD, or bundling together all three Final Fantasy XIII games into a remastered collection. Of course, all of this is just speculation and we’ll have to wait for more details from Square Enix as they arrive.

Would you buy any other Final Fantasy games if they came to PS4?
