The Witness Passes “Puzzle Complete Milestone,” 677 are in the Game Right Now

Entering “finish-the-game mode” back in August, The Witness from Thekla was given a status update by Jonathan Blow recently, where he revealed that it’s reached the Puzzle Complete milestone. What this means for The Witness is that all puzzles that will be in the final product when it ships are in the game right now.

However, this doesn’t mean The Witness is finished, as Blow explained:

We still have a lot to do! But it *does* mean that the nature of the work changes and becomes simpler, because we don’t have to be making high-level creative decisions any more. It is now much more about turning the finish-the-game crank (making sure stuff plays well and polishing it up) for anything related to game design, modeling and texturing.

Adding that “this is pretty good news” for anyone waiting for the game, Blow says there’s still a few things that require creative decisions, including story, the menu system, and more.

At the moment, there are 677 puzzles in The Witness, but that is subject to change if the developers decide to take out a few.

When a release window or release date is given for The Witness on PlayStation 4, we’ll let you know.
