Final Fantasy XIV Crosses Five Million Users

Excluding those who have been playing the free trial, Square Enix announced today that Final Fantasy XIV has exceeded five million registered accounts globally since A Realm Reborn launched two years ago.

Gaining one million users since February, Square Enix talked about FFXIV:

Spurred on by a vibrant community of players, as well as a consistent schedule of content updates, FINAL FANTASY XIV continues to deliver on the promise of bringing the hallmarks of the FINAL FANTASY experience to an online world. Players can enjoy the option of joining the adventure together on multiple platforms from the PC to the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the PlayStation®Vita handheld entertainment system (with Remote Play), and the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

Back in June, the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward expansion launched, adding a new story that puts you in the heart of the Dragonsong War. As well, you’ll find a raised level cap from 50 to 60 on all disciplines, a new playable race, new dungeons and raids, new primal battles, and the introduction of flying mounts.

Square Enix didn’t say how many of those five million accounts are still active, but in comparison, World of Warcraft is sitting at 5.6 million active players as of June 2015.
