Destiny Update 2.0 Arrives on September 8, Requires at Least 18GB of Free Space on PS4 & PS3

One week before Destiny: The Taken King launches on September 15, Bungie will be releasing Destiny update 2.0 to all users on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.

Required to continue playing Destiny even if you don’t buy The Taken King, update 2.0 will need about 18GB of free space on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Bungie suggests turning on automatic downloads (PS4, Xbox One) to ensure you’re able to play as soon as possible.

As for last-gen consoles, you’ll need 10GB of free space on Xbox 360 for the update, while PlayStation 3 owners “need closer to 20GB free for the required update during download and installation. Once install is complete, you’ll need around 10GB free.”

Bungie is aware that some Destiny players have 20GB PS3 or Xbox 360 systems. For those of you who may run into storage limitations, they offered up these solutions:

  1. Upgrade your available storage with currently available storage solutions: PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
  2. Upgrade your console – your Destiny Characters, gear, and progress will currently transfer if you upgrade either from PS3 to PS4 or from Xbox 360 to Xbox One. Cross family data transfer (e.g. PS3 to Xbox One or Xbox 360 to PS4) is not supported.
  3. Contact Activision Customer Support at https://support.activision.com/destinyupgrade. If you are validated as an existing and active Destiny player on one of the 20GB consoles as of September 15, 2015, and you submit your validation requirements to us no later than December 31, 2015, we will assist you in finding the right solution for your console’s storage space.

Destiny update 2.0 officially marks the start of Year 2 and will include a huge number of changes to the game. Expect full details closer to launch.
