Rockstar Talks GTA Online Development, Lack of Single-Player DLC

Freemode Events are coming to Grand Theft Auto Online next Tuesday, September 15, but it doesn’t look like any new single-player content will be coming to GTA V anytime soon.

In an interview with IGN, Rockstar North Director of Design Imran Sarwar took some time to speak about how GTA Online changed the way development on the game is done, explaining how production is now smoother.

Grand Theft Auto Online changed the flow of development from what we were traditionally used to, which has been a learning experience for everyone.

The shift to working on an evolving online game means there are fewer pauses in production – we are constantly producing content for GTA Online alongside everything else we are working on. We have been really excited by the idea of online multiplayer for a long time, and with the evolving nature of what GTA Online has become, we’ve been able to realize a lot of our ideas which has been a fantastic experience. GTA Online’s success means we are going to be able to work on a lot more in the future too as we’ve learned a ton and have come up with even more ideas for future games.

Sarwar was also asked about the possibility of single-player GTA V DLC, and while he didn’t give a clear answer, he did say that the team’s focus is on GTA Online right now.

Right now our focus is on GTA Online which has exceeded our expectations. We currently have all key members of the team that launched Grand Theft Auto V focused on supporting GTA Online in every capacity. The community we’ve been able to foster is massive, growing each day and we have so many ideas that have yet to make it into the game. The evolution of GTA Online on these newer platforms is also an exciting prospect as the power of those systems is going to allow us to achieve even more.

Are you looking forward to GTA Online‘s Freemode Events? What do you think of Sarwar’s answer about single-player DLC?
