Street Fighter V June Update Will Include the 4-Hour Story Expansion, Micro-Transactions

In the big Street Fighter V June Update releasing at the end of the month, Capcom will add the Cinematic Story Expansion, micro-transactions, and other new content.

Titled A Shadow Falls, the Story Expansion is three to four hours long and will be included as free DLC in the update. Featuring five chapters, A Shadow Falls takes place between Street Fighter IV and Street Fighter III and bridges the events of the two stories.

Here’s what to expect:

The Street Fighter V Cinematic Story Expansion, “A Shadow Falls,” depicts the ultimate battle between the evil Shadaloo organization and the heroic World Warriors who rise up against them. Seven “Black Moons” are deployed by Shadaloo, granting M. Bison unimaginable power and enveloping the earth in total darkness. Seeing the moons mysteriously appear in the sky, Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li embark on an epic journey around the world to retrieve fragment pieces that are the key to stopping the “Black Moons” before it’s too late. Along the way, they encounter the rest of the World Warriors, each of whom have their own agendas and motivations in mind. The final battle between good and evil begins now… who will RISE UP?

All six DLC characters (Alex, Guile Ibuki, Balrog, Urien, and Juri) will be playable in the Story Expansion. Since Balrog, Urien, and Juri won’t be out until later this year, they “shouldn’t be considered final or tournament ready, as they still need to be properly polished and balanced,” and should be considered as a free preview.

You’ll also be able to earn 30,000 Fight Money when competing the Story Expansion’s Normal Mode, and 50,000 FM when completing Extra Mode (a higher difficulty unlocked after completing Normal Mode).

Capcom also announced today that, “after extensive testing and development,” the Zenny Store is no longer coming to Street Fighter V. Instead, they’ll be using the PlayStation Store and Steam for micro-transactions following the June Update.

Here’s how much each piece of content will cost with Fight Money (earned through gameplay) and real money:

  • New Characters – 100,000 Fight Money or $5.99/€5.99
  • New Stages – 70,000 Fight Money or $3.99/€3.99
  • Alternate Stages – 40,000 Fight Money or $1.99/€1.99
  • Story Costumes – 40,000 Fight Money or $1.99/€1.99
  • Premium Costumes – $3.99/€3.99

When the June Update goes live, Alex and Guile will no longer be available as a free trial.

Also in the June Update, you’ll be able to purchase Story Mode costumes (Fight Money or real money) and premium Battle Costumes (real money).

After the June Update, you can expect re-tooled Daily Challenges (called Targets) where you earn Fight Money. New single-player modes, including Extra Battle and Versus CPU, are also on the way.
