June 2016 Digital Sales Report: Black Ops 3 Back at #1, Grand Theft Auto V Numbers Up

According to SuperData, the Further Adventures in Finance and Felony update for Grand Theft Auto V brought “thousands of players back to the title,” growing the monthly user based by 21% month-over-month. Full game downloads had previously dropped by 16% from March to April and 20% from April to May, but thanks to the 200,000 copies sold during the Steam Summer Sale, sales were up significantly.

“Combined with high average spending and conversion rates, June consequently resulted in GTA Online’s second-best month on record for additional content sales,” SuperData adds. However, they do believe its growth will lessen in its third year on the market.

Here’s the top five grossing console games by worldwide revenue for June 2016, as reported by SuperData:

  1. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
  2. FIFA 16
  3. Grand Theft Auto V
  4. Overwatch
  5. The Division

With the early success of Evolve’s move to free-to-play (in terms of player count), and its struggles against Overwatch, SuperData believes Battleborn will go free-to-play in the coming months.

If you missed it, the NPD has also begun tracking digital sales data in the United States.
