Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Releases on January 24, 2017 for PS4

After announcing the January 12 Japanese release date earlier today, Square Enix revealed that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue will release on January 24, 2017 in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4.

In the above trailer, you can get a look at new scenes depicting a meeting of the Foretellers, the five Keyblade Masters from the Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Back Cover movie. Additionally, you’ll find Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD gameplay and battle scenes from Aqua’s adventures in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –.

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue was previously set for a December 2016 release, and according to a translated message from Series Director Tetsuya Nomura, the delay is “due to the adjustment of contiguous titles:”

First, I must apologize. As was stated today, due to the adjustment of contiguous titles, our estimated release date for Kingdom Hearts 2.8 of December 2016 has become (for Japan) the 12th January 2017. To everyone who was looking forward to a release before the end of the year, I’m so sorry. Please rest assured that development itself is moving along as planned without a single issue and we are nearly finished.

Nomura’s likely referring to Final Fantasy XV, which was delayed to November 29.

He also mentioned that Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 would be compatible with the PS4 Pro, Kingdom Hearts 3 is “coming along steadily,” there’s “something else” being planned around March of next year for the series’ 15th anniversary that he can’t talk about yet, and he thinks “next year will be full of chances for me to announce new information.”

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue includes Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD; Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A fragmentary passage –, a playable episode that stars Aqua, takes place after Birth By Sleep, and links to the story of Kingdom Hearts III; and Kingdom Hearts χ [chi] Back Cover, an HD movie that tells the story of the Foretellers.
