Final Fantasy XV and Tomb Raider Contribute to Square Enix’s Positive Financial Performance

Square Enix has just detailed its financial performance for the nine-month period ended December 31, 2016, reporting an increase in revenue. By the end of the period, net sales amounted to ¥190,084 million (a 24.4 percent increase from ¥152,760 million last year) and profit attributable to owners of parent amounted to ¥17,055 million (a 26 percent increase from ¥13,538 million last year).

“Major launches of blockbuster series titles such as Final Fantasy XV and the PlayStation 4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider, on top of strong download sales of catalogue titles released previously, have led to a material increase of net sales and operating income in the area of console games, compared to the same period of the prior fiscal year,” reads the report.

While net sales for the Digital Entertainment segment (which includes console games) increased by 32.7 percent, operating income decreased by 5.8 percent.

Elsewhere, Square Enix reports that net sales and operating income from PC browser games and smart devices increased significantly compared to the same period last year.
