Overwatch Game Director: Three Standard Maps “Looking Likely” to Release This Year

Posting in a forum thread asking if two maps a year was enough, Overwatch Game Director Jeff Kaplan revealed that Blizzard has three standard maps in development right now, and all three could be out by the end of 2017. Additionally, they have three non-standard maps in development, but a release window wasn’t given for them.

Here’s Kaplan’s full comment:

We currently have 3 maps in development, all past the initial playtesting phase that are “standard” maps (QP/Comp). While something could always change, all 3 of those are looking likely for a release this year.

We also have 3 non-standard maps in development (these won’t go in QP/Comp).

We also have a few other experiments going on.

Hopefully this will satisfy some of what you’re looking for. We want to play on these maps as badly as you guys do. We’ll work as fast as we can!

In the above video, Kaplan responds to some of the comments from IGN readers. About halfway through, he reveals that he’s bought “at least three copies” with his own money.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, the Uprising event in Overwatch is only available for one more week.

What do you hope to see from future Overwatch maps?
