Dragon Quest I, II, and III Coming to PS4 Later This Month

Square Enix announced this morning that they’re bringing some classic role-playing games to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS later this month. The original Dragon Quest and its sequel Dragon Quest II will be released on August 10 in Japan. These classic ports will be pretty affordable, and will only cost 600 and 850 yen, respectively. Dragon Quest III will join them later that month (an exact release date wasn’t given), but at a higher price of 1,500 yen.

This wasn’t the only big Dragon Quest news announced this weekend, as the Japanese publisher also revealed that Dragon Quest Builders 2 was in development. The first gameplay for the upcoming PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch title can be seen here. It’ll feature some major improvements upon the original game, as it’ll offer online cooperative multiplayer, the ability to use a glider, and players can now swim underwater.

It’s great to see such ongoing support of one of the most influential role-playing game franchises. There is currently no word on if these ports of Dragon QuestDragon Quest II, and Dragon Quest III will see a worldwide release, but Square Enix has done a good job of late of bringing over titles in the series. They recently announced that Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age would be coming over to North America and Europe in 2018, so it certainly wouldn’t be a shock if these classic titles got over to lessen the wait.

We’ll have more on these classic ports as more detailed information becomes available.
