Each episode of Telltales Games’ Guardians of the Galaxy series has focused on a different character’s origins, and in episode four it was Drax who received the treatment. It wound up being quite the emotional affair (which says a lot for such a stoic character), and now Telltale Games’ Josh Trujillo has detailed what it’s like getting to write for one of Marvel’s iconic characters. He had a lot to say on the matter over at Telltale Games’ blog.
Here’s some of what Trujillo had to say about writing Drax:
However, the constant that has always been at the heart of Drax’s character is his deep loyalty, and devotion to his lost family. Our Telltale series offers a chance to relive a special moment between Drax and his beloved daughter, Kamaria. For those who have played Episode 4 so far, it’s one of the most touching and vital scenes in the entire series.
Family is at the heart of the Guardians of the Galaxy games, and it’s something fans have been very excited about. Whether it’s Rocket and Lylla, Gamora and Nebula, or Drax and Kamaria, we are able to get a deeper sense of who these characters are by exploring their preexisting relationships. For many Guardians fans, this is their first exposure to deep cosmic lore that made the characters so interesting in the first place. To write these scenes, and add to that legacy, has been a huge honor.

By the end of episode four, I was starting to have regrets about every choice I had made in Guardians of the Galaxy. By often thinking about putting the team first, rather than how my teammates felt, I hadn’t been a very good friend. Juggling those responsibilities as a leader was difficult, and I just hope that future episodes will allow me to right my wrongs.
The first four episodes of Telltale Games’ Guardians of the Galaxy are available now, and the fifth episode should be out in the near future.
