Sony Issues Statement on Fortnite Controversy Amid Backlash

During the week of E3 2018, Sony found itself shrouded in controversy when players found out that not only cross-play between Fortnite‘s PlayStation 4 and Switch versions is disabled, but that their accounts are also blocked from being used on Nintendo’s platform if they were once linked to PS4 (vice versa).

The latter part of the issue was neither addressed by Sony nor Epic so no one really knows who is responsible for the accounts being blocked. However, Sony has responded to BBC’s request for comment, stating that it’s listening to the PlayStation community.

We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience. With more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms.

We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point.

In other words, Sony is neither confirming nor denying that the account blocking issue has anything to do with the company’s policies.
