XSEED Producer Says Cancelling Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal Over Censorship Issue Would Hurt Devs

Following its announcement of removing Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal‘s Intimacy Mode upon Sony’s request, XSEED is facing heavy criticism from fans who are accusing the company of buckling under pressure. Several XSEED employees, notably localization producer Tom Lipschultz, have been busy explaining why they were “forced” to accept Sony’s demands.

When fans suggested that Burst Re:Newal‘s PlayStation 4 version should have simply been cancelled in retaliation, Lipschultz responded by saying that such a move would deal a “huge” financial blow to not only XSEED but also Honey Parade Games, and would result in the alienation of a fanbase that had nothing to do with Sony’s decision.

Cancellation would deal a huge financial blow to us AND the developer, strain our relations with basically everyone involved, alienate the portion of the fanbase who wants to play the game on PS4 regardless (and yes, they DO matter), and basically just hurt everyone involved.

Calling it a “lose-lose” situation, Lipschultz reiterated that the developers and publishers don’t have the luxury of throwing away all their hard work over one mode. He also hinted that XSEED wasn’t happy with the situation and that there will be some “push-back” behind the scenes.

That said, Lipschultz expressed his disappointment over fans blaming XSEED for the fiasco.

A new release date for Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal will be announced in due course.
