Days Gone Gets Delayed to April To Add Polish and Avoid a Crowded Release Window

Originally schedule to launch on February 22, 2019, you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer to get your hands on Bend Studio’s upcoming PlayStation exclusive title. The Days Gone release date has been delayed to April 26, 2019. Sony Worldwide Studios and Bend Studio explained that they wanted to move it out of the crowded February release window, and the move allows them some extra time to add a little bit more polish to the game.

Sony Worldwide Studios announced the change on the PlayStation Blog:

We want to share a change in release date for this highly anticipated title from Bend Studio. We recently decided to move the release of Days Gone from the crowded February timeframe to April 26, 2019. While the studio is eager to see Days Gone in the hands of fans, Bend Studio will take the opportunity to further polish Days Gone.

Days Gone is an open-world game where players will take on the role of Deacon St. John, a biker who is just trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic and infected dynamic world. If the premise sounds familiar, that’s because it’s similar to a number of different properties. Bend Studio promises that the game will offer a living and changing open-world that will make every player’s experience with the game unique, even as its core premise remains familiar.

Days Gone has been a divisive  and polarizing title, with many seeing it as potentially derivative. We’ve liked it a lot on the numerous occasions we’ve had a chance to preview it, seeing it as more than just a copy of other PS4 exclusives or zombie games. With general hype levels not nearly as high for Days Gone as past PS4 exclusives—like God of War, Detroit: Become Human, or Spider-Man—it makes sense that Sony would want to move the game to a less crowded release window to allow it to breathe. The added polish is just icing on the cake.

How do you feel about the Days Gone delay? Are you eager to get your hands on Bend Studio’s latest? Don’t forget that Bend Studio is also hiring for a brand new triple-A IP, so it looks like they’ll be moving on to new things once Days Gone is released.

Days Gone releases April 26, 2019 exclusively on PS4.
