Gran Turismo 7 Requires Internet Connection

Gran Turismo 7 Requires Constant Online Connection, Features More Than 400 Cars from Day One

Gran Turismo 7 was one of the many games to make an appearance during last week’s PlayStation Showcase. While the main feature was the release date and a trailer showing off many of the game’s features, one of the other details to emerge was that most of those features and modes will require a constant online connection. Polyphony Digital also explained what they meant by a “huge catalog” of cars included in the game with more than 400 cars available from day one.

GT7 will include many different game modes. The GT Campaign will make a return, as well as Driving School where players can hone their skills and earn different licenses. GT Simulation will be where cars can be customized, bought and sold. Arcade will allow players to jump into a variety of different races while GT Sport will pit players against one another. While an internet connection for GT Sport should be fairly obvious, the developer has confirmed an online connection will be required for most of those other modes too.

GT Campaign and Arcade, the latter where players will be able to jump onto some of the legendary circuits like Trial Mountain and High-Speed Ring, will both require internet connection. GT Simulation requires an online connection for “most functionality,” although this will definitely include the Livery Editor, the GT Cafe for buying and selling cars, and GT Auto where players will be able to tune and customize those cars. Those wanting to use Scapes where players can take photorealistic images across more than 2,500 locations will also need to be connected online.

The good news is car collectors will be kept occupied for hours on end. There will be more than 420 cars available at Brand Central and the Used Car Dealership from day of release. These can be raced on more than 90 tracks that will include classic Gran Turismo courses. All of these will be available when Gran Turismo 7 releases on PS5 and PS4 on March 4, 2022.
